Library News: Hours, September Lessons and More

Overview

Mrs. Johns and I have been busy training our student library aides and are now ready for business. We opened up this Wednesday, September 3rd for returning 7th and 8th graders.  6th graders began library orientation Thursday, September 4th and began coming to the library individually, shortly thereafter.  Orientation classes will be held in each grade level Reading class through September 16th. Scheduled classes may be viewed on the "Calendar" tab within the library's web page.  The next lesson in the library will be geared to each class but will focus on library skills and helping students to become independent learners.  All teachers are encouraged to schedule individual classes and/or request resources from the library to support and enrich lessons.

Hours

The library opens at 7:45a.m. each morning and will close at 4:15p.m. daily, except on Thursdays when the library closes early at 3:45p.m. for faculty and other professional development meetings. The library will be staying open later on Monday and Wednesdays when tutorials and the late buses begin operation, the third week of September.  Students are welcome to come before school with a pass from a teacher or their parent.

Students will also have the opportunity to come to the library once every other week with their Reading classes.

Library "Den" time

The library will be sponsoring a Den time beginning on September 18th.  We can take up to 25 students, so sign up early!  More details to come . . .

Lone Star 'n More Contest

We'll still be doing the Lone Star and More Contest, but with a different completed review product rather than a written report.  Reviews must be online and digital.  You can submit reviews through Destiny Quest, one completed project must be a book trailer. The library will be offering classes in making book trailers in the near future or you can make the trailers in your tech classes. Think, Animoto, PowToon, Emaze, Prezi, etc. More details on contest requirements will be given during Reading classes.  Requirements for attending the Pizza party/Book Bash are: reading at least six Lone Star books and creating at least one book trailer and five reviews.
